Black Coat

A lady in a long elegant black coat. The only source of light is from the door of the ticket booth by the cathedral. Well there still comes a little almost cobalt bluish shine through the large columns, but one has to look very closely..... the blue that is left is fading away by the minute, the days grow shorter and shorter...


Eine Dame in einem langen eleganten schwarzen Mantel. Das einzige Licht kommt von der Tür des Kartenverkaufs des Doms. Doch ein ganz wenig Licht fällt auch durch die großen Säulen, Kobaltblau ist es fast, aber man muß sehr genau hinschauen, das wenige Blau verschwindet sehr schnell, die Tage werden kürzer und kürzer...

Refuge

Its not so very often that while walking through Berlin on the lookout for something to paint, I get surprised by a snow storm, it actually has never happened before. In this part of the world you do not expect snow storms. They are supposed to happen only in old black and white films, with fierce looking bearded men, shouting at each other.... but not here in the midst of civilisation ( well some would argue this of course, but that is another matter altogether ). So I took refuge in the cathedral, which I thought was rather symbolic, even as I had only painted this place a few days ago, in some very different weather conditions.

Es geschieht nicht sehr oft, daß ich, während auf Motivsuche durch Berlin spazierend, von einem Schneesturm überrascht werde, ehrlichgesagt ist das bisher noch nie vorgekommen. In diesem Teil der Welt erwartet man einfach keinen Schneesturm. Sie gehören irgendwie zu alten Schwarzweißfilmen mit grimmig dreinschauenden bärtigen Männern, die sich anschreien ... aber nicht hier in die sogenannte Zivilisation (gut, das ist natürlich nochmal ein Thema für sich). Ich flüchtete mich in den Dom, was ich ziemlich symbolisch fand, vor allem da ich diesen Ort ja vor kurzem gemalt hatte, allerdings unter ganz anderen Wetterbedingungen.
